Little people playing behind bars
Children plumped together like so many pillows
being pushed and played with but
no love.
Little people crying behind bars
fenced in to make them safe, to keep them
like pets in a window ready to be picked up but
no love.
Little people hankering behind bars
pretending to understand why they are second
to the big people's work, their lives but with
no love
Little people staring through bars
no smell of warm mum and strong dad
abandon all hope ye who enter there is
no love
Little people grow through the bars
fast, hurriedly, like a lightening strike
And they will strike one day where there is
no love.
Little people numbed through the bars
of their lives, lived on the fringe of their parents
Little people second to others, but learning fast their own selfishness
for love.
We will pay
We will pay
We will pay
and wonder
Why they don't, can't love.
