Quotes that count.

Steve Biddulph (Australian author of "How to Raise Boys") says:
"If we don't stand for ultimate human values, if we lose
our moral compass, then we are a country doomed to fatal
division and decline. Who would even care about us?"
This is a genuine and far more pertinent statement about
values than that recently dished up to us by any politician.

Albert Einstein once made an interesting observation:
'everything that can be counted does not necessarily count;
everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted. '

It was Britain's wartime leader, Winston Churchill, who said:
"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing -
after they've tried everything else."

Definition of a committee:
a group of individuals who can do nothing individually,
and who meet to decide that nothing can be done together.

thoughts

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming........."WOW! What a
ride!"

ANYONE HEARD OF THESE?

Anything that takes care of pain...

Did You Know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve
headache pain almost immediately -- without the unpleasant
side effects caused by traditional "pain relievers."

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent
salve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler
filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple
of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up
your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon
of horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture
it for 30 minutes, then apply it as a
massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of
honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar
kills the bacteria.

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just
dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it
at the onset of the symptoms.
Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections
almost instantly-- even though the product was never been
advertised for this use.

Honey remedy for skin blemishes ... Cover the blemish with
a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills
the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing.
Works overnight.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus. Get rid of unsightly toenail
fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful
antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

Easy eyeglass protection... To prevent the screws in
eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline
Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws
before tightening them.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer ...
If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets
get in your home and you can't find the insecticide,
try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground
instantly.

Smart splinter remover. Just pour a drop of Elmer's
Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried
glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure ...cover the boil with Hunt's
tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes
soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

Balm for broken blisters... To disinfect a broken blister,
dab on a few drops of Listerine. A powerful antiseptic.

Vinegar to heal bruises ... Soak a cotton ball in white
vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour.
The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the
healing process.

Kills fleas instantly...Dawn dishwashing liquid
does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and
shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin
irritations. Good-bye fleas.

Rainy day cure for dog odor ... Next time your dog
comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal
with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly
making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites. All it takes is a few drops of
Wesson corn oil in your cat's ear...Massage it in,
then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily
for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers
the mites, and accelerates healing.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief... It's not for
breakfast any more! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1
cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for
1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your
hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

Atheists forgive me..

3 men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large, raging
and violent river.
Needing to get on the other side, the first man prayed, "God, please give
me the strength to cross the river."

Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to
swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.
After witnessing that the second man prayed, "God, please give me
strength and the tools to cross the river."

Poof! God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and he
was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.
Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed,
"God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the river."

Poof! He was turned into a woman.
She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards up stream and walked across
the bridge.

Ha ha ha...Well done!

Chaser pair thought gag would fail - National - smh.com.au

It was such a relief for this to actually take its place in the whole stupid APEC situation. The only ones who still show us we can be larrikans and have a laugh at the expense of the tight arsed leaders of the world!!!

Hey. It has been 6 years. Longer than WW1 or WW11.
Move on.
Get over it.
You are showing that the elusive 'terrorists' have won.

Freedom let it ring.
Freedom let it shine.

The Wrap Up

"What happens when you put good people in an evil place? Does humanity win over evil, or does evil triumph?"

This is a line from the "Stanford Prison Experiment."
It came to light when watching our police officers bully people ( five in all) at the APEC meeting. The fear in Australia restricted protesters to a mere 5,000 or so. Fear of what?

Fear of being bullied, arrested, threatened, hurt, and even shot at. It is a rare thing indeed to be shot by a police officer in Australia so to feel that you have been warned for a month before a 'friendly meeting' of 'allies' puts the doubt in your mind.

The fence, the helicopters, the water police vehicles, the Federal police, the state police, the newly acquired water cannon, the signs, the towing of private vehicles away from their usual parking areas, the declaration of people free streets, buildings ( including the Opera House) parks and beaches made, according to some Sydneysiders, the place feel like a war zone.

A 'take' from a fellow scrabble player who happened to be visiting Sydney from South Australia in a rare visit:
"You can imagine all the swat vehicles and police cars and sirens
were all over the place, the helicopters came in and around
there too, water police, you could have just about walked from
boat to boat there were so many of them on the water. When we were
up in Centrepoint there were swat guys up there and sniffer dogs,
but you could see that there were about 6 or 7 helicopters
in the air at any one time, but all the fencing around the
places they were made the whole thing look shabby.
A few tourists that we spoke to were very disappointed as
they had booked to spend that weekend in Sydney and there was
not a mention by their travel agents about the long weekend so to speak."

Another account was of being in an office building over looking the Harbour and trying to work and stay calm whilst the helicopters 'buzzed' the building and shook the windows flying around and around overhead.
The feeling of surreal, movie-like, America was the strongest description.

Another tale was from a person who 'approved' of the situation as he was working driving the politicians, the leaders wives etc around the city, in a clear run, ignoring traffic lights, forgetting that other Australians were not practising their freedom, being housed in one of the best motels in Sydney, being fed incredible meals, and paid a fortune for this job.
He said:
"Don't believe what you see in the newspapers or on the Telly".

(These five days cost the tax payer over $350mill.)

So the man being held down and punched for daring to try to cross a street, the woman photographer being bodily thrown backwards by police, the man who was grabbed and sat on by 5 burly police officers, the frustration of those middle aged brave men and women of our citizenry trying to make a point were all 'lies' being misrepresented by the media.

So came the discussion on 'how to produce a bully'. It was suggested that the report by the Stanford research team be revisited.

This is what we have become? Here?
http://news.google.com/news?imgefp=u9JlSuqfakEJ&imgurl=afp.google.com/media/ALeqM5gw3JHLArgGJzXyEvycjhDOLmHsoA

This is the Right wing/Christian loving/individual promoting/capitalist hungry side of democracy is 'fighting ' for?

Well we want none of it.
We want OUR Australia back.
We want it NOW!

Postscript:

We Australians are known for our "larrikanism" for our disrespect for authority but our willingness to stand up for our mates, for our thumbing the nose at nationalism, patriotic fervour and syrupy stupidity. We pride ourselves on our need to laugh in the face of control freaks and to disregard the seriousness of any situation. Even our own weak-kneed, dessicated coconut of a Prime Minister espouses these things as Australian 'Virtues'.

Universal Soldier - Donovan

He's five foot two and he's six foot four
He fights with missiles and with spears
He is all of thirty one and he's only seventeen
He's been a soldier for a thousand years.

He fighting for Canada, he's fighting for France
He's fighting for the USA.
He's fighting for the Russians and he's fighting for Japan
And he thinks we'll put an end to war that way.

He's fighting for democracy, he's fighting for he Reds
He says its for the peace of us all
He's the one who must decided who's to live and who's to die
And he never sees the writings on the walls.

He's the Universal soldier and he really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from here, there and you and me and brothers can't you see
This is not the way to put an end to war.

Saw an old movie.."old".
"1969" with Keifer Sutherland. During the Vietnam conscriptions and the young people finally standing up and becoming vocal.
A young female character stands up as valedictorian of her school to give her speech and speaks out against the war.

Watching all the way through ( not the best of made movies) it was sad to realise that that could NOT happen in USA nowadays. She would be berated and even censored ( and censured), for sure.

The marching, the protests, the rising rights for freedom and the right NOT to go to Vietnam are all now a part of 'the good ol' days'.

And now a 'comedy' group, pretty much the only political satirists left on Australian television have been arrested during this carry on with Pres. Bush in Sydney.

It causes down-heartedness when we can no longer take the piss out of the stupidity of our leaders and their best mates!

Now all, ALL the protesters are being declared 'violent, threatening, attackers' etc. They haven't even begun and they are all being smeared, vilified, and made the target of hatred by our leaders here in OZ.
Reminds one of Germany when Hitler worked out that to make one group the target of hatred, derision and scorn helped him become stronger and more powerful.

It has ever been thus, but I thought we knew better here in Australia.

Alas.

Bush, go home.
Howard, your time to go!

Aussies pick Bush for a 'dud': poll

A new Galaxy Poll says a majority of Australians believe

George W Bush is the worst president in US history.

Mr Bush is due to arrive in Australia this evening for the

APEC conference in Sydney.

The new poll shows that 52 per cent of those surveyed

agreed with the statement that Mr Bush was the worst-ever

president, while 32 per cent disagreed.

Dr Robert Marr from the Medical Association for the Prevention of War

- the organisation that funded the poll - says most Australians

do not agree with Mr Bush's policy in Iraq.

"Australians are not anti-American, they're anti the policies

of George Bush, particularly the invasion of Iraq," Dr Marr said.

"Mr Howard has got it dead wrong when he says that opposing

George Bush is opposing the American alliance.

"It is not that. Australians are sensible enough to know the

difference between a dud president and good Americans."

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

"By the time a man realises that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong."
Charles Wadworth.

"A man never stands as tall as when he kneels to help a child."
Knights of Pythagoras

"Any fool can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a daddy."
Philip Whitmore

Even when your father is dead his influence for good or bad lies deep within you.

The most important maxim that was learnt by Polly:

"There is no greater gift a man can give his children but to love their mother."

There are three children today that are spread around the globe who can take comfort in that great gift.

Happy Father's day to all who deserve the accolades and to those who at least keep trying.

President Apologises.

Reported in SMH this morning.
Could he just stay home?
Please?
AND apologise to the people of Iraq?
AND to Palestine?

What the hell does he need 650 extras for?

It is just too much.
This is the beloved beautiful capital of NSW. Does this happen in every city he visits in the USA?
How the hell does anything get done if they have to put up the barracades every time he passes.

The image “http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2007/09/01/fence.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

GEORGE BUSH was unaware yesterday of the inconvenience his visit next week would cause Sydneysiders, but quickly offered an apology when informed.

The US President will be one of 21 leaders to gather in Sydney for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit. His arrival on Tuesday night, two days earlier than originally scheduled, will cause added bother.

"I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about," he told Sky News when asked about the issue. "I'm looking forward to coming to, they tell me, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. If I inconvenience people, you know, that's not my intent.

"To the extent that I inconvenience them, I apologise," said Mr Bush, whose entourage includes about 650 people and dozens of vehicles.
