He contracted prostate cancer which finally claimed him.
Matt Price was a wonderful WA journalist who was witty, smart and entertaining. He tried to explain the complexities of politics to a diverse audience. He wrote, reported and appeared on the ABC "Insiders" program.
He contracted brain tumours that suddenly appeared and created tumors in his oesophegus in a very short time.
Bernie Banton was a tireless fighter for the little man, the worker against the odds. He fought for those like his brother who died from mesothelioma and asbestoses.
He stood up to the 'big end of town' and Hardies. He stood up to politicians like Tony Abbott.
He was an amazing example of a good man.
All these men have died recently. Two are the same age as my own brother.
They all earned deserved and had my respect.
They will be sorely missed by their families and by strangers. Surely a mark of greatness.

My heroes are always people of heart, compassion and wit. Never 'successful', 'rich', nor necessarily 'famous'.
There is no greater reward than to be loved and admired from afar for who you really are.
