He fighting for Canada, he's fighting for France
He's fighting for the USA.
He's fighting for the Russians and he's fighting for Japan
And he thinks we'll put an end to war that way.

He's fighting for democracy, he's fighting for he Reds
He says its for the peace of us all
He's the one who must decided who's to live and who's to die
And he never sees the writings on the walls.

He's the Universal soldier and he really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from here, there and you and me and brothers can't you see
This is not the way to put an end to war.

Saw an old movie.."old".
"1969" with Keifer Sutherland. During the Vietnam conscriptions and the young people finally standing up and becoming vocal.
A young female character stands up as valedictorian of her school to give her speech and speaks out against the war.

Watching all the way through ( not the best of made movies) it was sad to realise that that could NOT happen in USA nowadays. She would be berated and even censored ( and censured), for sure.

The marching, the protests, the rising rights for freedom and the right NOT to go to Vietnam are all now a part of 'the good ol' days'.

And now a 'comedy' group, pretty much the only political satirists left on Australian television have been arrested during this carry on with Pres. Bush in Sydney.

It causes down-heartedness when we can no longer take the piss out of the stupidity of our leaders and their best mates!

Now all, ALL the protesters are being declared 'violent, threatening, attackers' etc. They haven't even begun and they are all being smeared, vilified, and made the target of hatred by our leaders here in OZ.
Reminds one of Germany when Hitler worked out that to make one group the target of hatred, derision and scorn helped him become stronger and more powerful.

It has ever been thus, but I thought we knew better here in Australia.

Alas.
